
Martina Jakovčić is a professor at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. She graduated in History and Geography from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2002 and earned her PhD in Geography from the Faculty of Science in 2008. Her research interests include economic geography, the geography of consumption, and spatial planning. Her research has explored the development of shopping centers and consumer practices in postsocialist countries, with a focus on Croatia and Slovenia. Another strand of her research examines the transformation of urban functional structures influenced by deindustrialization, with particular attention to the processes and impacts of repurposing former industrial and military brownfield sites. She has participated in numerous national and bilateral research projects and is the author of around forty scientific papers and book chapters. Since 2004, she has held a continuous appointment at the Faculty of Science, where she teaches courses in economic and transport geography. She has served two terms as Head of the Department of Geography, was Vice-Dean for International Cooperation from 2020, and, as of 2025, holds the position of Vice-Dean for Finance and Business Affairs.
